One of the top small forward prospects in the 2017 class, Kimani Lawrence used a clean bill of health and an improved skillset to improve his college recruitment this past summer. Now with a bevy of college offers in hand, the 6-foot-6 senior took things a step closer to a college decision on Tuesday by narrowing down his list to a final five.

Sporting a 6-foot-10 wingspan and with the potential to become a coveted 3-and-D weapon at the college level and beyond, the upside out of Lawrence is quite promising. Running on the Nike EYBL circuit this past summer, the New England native was able to show off his entire package of abilities. Averaging nearly 16 points off of over 53-percent shooting from the field, Lawrence is a model of efficiency. He can score the ball from deep or at the basket on the hard finish, rebounds the ball at a solid rate, but is also capable of protecting his basket when need-be.

The number-45 ranked prospect in all of America, Lawrence is now preparing to go out on a good note this high school season playing with the talented New Hampton School bunch. Beforehand, the Providence native is focusing in on his recruitment where he is now down to a final five of Arizona State, USC, Pittsburgh, Texas, and Florida.

After visiting Arizona State and USC for an unofficial visit last month, Lawrence plans on heading back to both Pac-12 programs next month. In the meantime, he spoke further on each program that made the final cut.

Arizona State

“I get the opportunity to work with a coach (Bobby Hurley) who was a lottery pick and who does well with guard development, as well as the opportunity to play big minutes and make an impact in my first year.”

USC

“They have a history with getting guys at my position to the next level and they are really good at skill development.”

Pittsburgh

“I have a great relationship with Coach (Kevin) Stallings and there is an opportunity for me to come in and play big minutes as a freshman in the ACC.”

Texas

“Me and Coach (Shaka) Smart have a really good relationship and he knows how to win and get guys better.”

Florida

“Coach (Mike) White is probably one of the head coaches that I talk to the most and I like what he has planned for the Florida basketball program.”

Expect for the top-50 recruit to give the proper time and a visit to each program on his condensed list before coming to a final decision and signing early this November.
