Nation's best in hot pursuit of Garland

Darius Garland is one of the top guards in the class of 2018 and his recruitment reflects that. The 6-foot-1 guard from Nashville (TN) Brentwood Academy has a who’s who list of college basketball programs in hot pursuit.

Garland said he holds offers from Vanderbilt, Memphis, Tennessee, Virginia, Louisville, Wake Forest, Baylor, Arizona State and others. He’s also hearing from Ohio State, Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Texas, Connecticut, Purdue and more, he said.

Basketball is important, no doubt, but when it comes time to look for the one Garland says his focus will be much bigger than the ball.

"Academics (are the most important) for sure," Garland said. "(Then), how i get along with the coaching staff and the team."

The St. Louis Eagles guard said he has been to Indiana, Louisville and Vanderbilt for visits and doesn’t have any immediate plans to visit anyone else at the moment. His focus is on the hardwood right now.

Garland leaves for Colorado Springs on Friday for two weeks with intense training and competition. Garland is one of 39 players selected for the USA Basketball Men’s U17 World Championship Team training camp.

Our Corey Evans will be on hand for the camp this year and will have a chance to see Garland in action. Our 2018 rankings will be updated after the USA camp, Nike Elite 100 and the NBA Top 100 camp. Garland is currently the No. 31 ranked player in our 2018 rankings.
