While there is still some time to go before Scott Barnes even thinks about hitting a college playing floor, the buzz has already begun surrounding the intriguing freshman. A 6-foot-7 forward that can transition fully into the small forward position, or grow a bit further and create giant matchup issues as a skilled and talented four-man, the upside and potential with the Sunshine State native is more than promising, all of which he showed this past weekend.

A native of West Palm Beach, Florida, Barnes is more than ready to give it a go this winter during his inaugural campaign on the high school circuit for his local Cardinal Newman High bunch. Running with the South Florida Elite program this past summer, Barnes has hit the camp circuit in recent few weeks giving it a go at the acclaimed CP3 Rising Stars Camp in August, before finishing things up in Sarasota this past weekend at The Workout.

Displaying good size and length, Barnes works best facing the basket and in putting the ball on the floor off of his right hand. While he still has some time to go before he fully develops and fills out physically, the freshman forward does have a sturdy set of ball skills already in tow. He can hit shots out to the mid-range area and is a solid athlete at the basket off of a running start. Boasting a bevy of upside and a worker’s approach, the South Florida Elite product is already tracking as one of the better college prospects from the 2020 class out of the south.

While the college recruitment process is just beginning for Barnes, Florida has already begun to show some attention with the prospering freshman. There is a lot of work to be done these next four years of high school basketball, though the southeast Florida native seems to have the will to be a force to be reckoned with. “I want to be really good,” Barnes stated. “I want to be a great NBA player and be a Hall of Famer.”

Speaking further on what he brings to the floor, Barnes gave insight at what he does well. “I bring intensity to the floor, I can score, and I like to get everyone involved with my passing abilities,” the freshman noted.

Sure, there is more than ample time for things to play out, yet with the desire to get better, the frame to grow into, and a solid set of early age ball skills, expect for this to be just the beginning for Scott Barnes, one of the best out of Sunshine State from the 2020 class.
