HoopSeen Stories: The introduction of Tyshaun Crawford

Prior to taking my flight down to Georgia for my first Fall Preview event last October, our HoopSeen Editor-in-Chief Justin Young, gave me the heads up on a peculiar big man that had flown under the radar up until that point.

He said, "Watch Tyshaun Crawford."

So I did. Crawford, a 6-foot-11 space eating center, was ready to hit the floor at the Suwnaee Sports Academy and it was our job to indulge in what could be with the Griffin High School (GA) product.

If you can’t find Crawford on the hardwood, well then, you better get some glasses. Yeah, the same one’s that the senior big man rocks.  Heading into the event with no offers in hand and minimal interest to date, Crawford began his story that warm day in Georgia.

The Preview series, our individual camps that take place during the spring and fall of each calendar year, has become known for bringing in some of the very best that the region has to provide. A variety of the top, highly rated recruits suit up but it is also a platform for guys like Crawford, prospects that have limited college attention, to create major noise and further their own respective, college recruitment.

Upon finishing the event, Crawford had the people in the gym talking. Sure, he didn’t blow anyone over but he did display soft hands around the basket, a decent motor in getting up and down the floor, and of course, a bear-like stature as he took up a ton of space and created for issues in being scored over in the lane.

Fast-forward a year later and Crawford has became a mid-major priority. Georgia Southern, Western Carolina, and Jacksonville hosted official visits with the near 7-footer while Rutgers and MTSU also offered.

He committed to Georgia Southern in September. He will sign with the Eagles in November. Not bad for a player that few knew much about before our fall showcase event.

The Fall Preview was just the beginning for Crawford where he now has gone from a lackluster, college profile and into one where he can pick from a variety of options from all throughout the east coast.
