Peach State teams, players shine at SEBA

The holiday season is among us, which for a lot of people means a lot of season’s greetings. However, HoopSeen sees it as a time to see a lot of great basketball events. One of those events was this weekend was SEBA at Pope High School, which had a great showing from some good teams. Here are a few quick notes from the day’s action:

  • St. Pius could be a factor later in the season. They don’t have a ton that will give you those “wow” moments, but they are very solid all around. Junior forward Kerney Lane could also be a name worth keeping track of.
  • Similar to St. Pius is Blessed Trinity. When these two match up in region play, it will be a showcase of two well-coached teams and a game that basketball purists will want to watch.
  • Coaches looking for unsigned senior guards may want to take a trip to Powder Springs and check out Hillgrove. The Hawks have two of the better available guards in point man Antonio Wade and deadly shooter Jordan Julian.
  • Berkmar 2017 guard Al Durham showed that he can impact a game without scoring. The sophomore did not find his shot falling with success, but made a huge impact for Berkmar on the defensive end and also with his energy, rebounding, and passing.
  • South Paulding sophomore point guard Kane Williams has the measurables. The lefty point guard is 6’2’’ with great length. He is an interesting prospect with a high ceiling. His development could be something worth keeping an eye on.
  • Pope duo Chase Hutchins and Garrick DeBowles had arguably the best performance from a pair of teammates so far this year. Hutchins, a Georgia College signee, had 33 points for the Greyhounds while DeBowles, an Embry Riddle signee, had 28. DeBowles has been an animal the last two weeks at SEBA & the GACS Showcase.
  • Walton forward and Air Force commit Nick Wells is starting to become one of the state’s better shooters. At 6’5’’ with good length and a lot of athleticism, he could be a steal for the Air Force Academy. He has certainly been one of the better performers in the state this year.
  • With all the youngsters at Norcross, it was the upperclassmen that made a difference for the Blue Devils against Walton. Senior guards Devin Huffman and Tim Cameron brought a high level of energy combined with a lot of leadership to help will the Devils to victory.
